Loft into a Water Tower

More than likely we all have seen many water towers, most of them being deserted. The problem of abandoned buildings is not a current one , it is quite old, being solved in most cases by their architectural reconversion in living spaces. So we have numerous examples of buildings that have been abandoned due to the lack of interest or activity and due to their vast history and their membership in the local heritage that’s why they were not demolished.

Arranging a living space in a building with no straight walls has always been a challenge, especially as in this case where were desired a placement of the light wells to increase the natural light. The architectural layout is simple: on the first floor is designed the living area: living room and open kitchen and at the upper level is the master bedroom. Each level is provided with a bathroom. The general idea of interior design is the contrast between shapes and materials: the interior objects have forms of plasma and reflective finishes and exterior walls have circular shape and brick finish.

The kitchen is open with a high and fragmented storage and an island with a special form and totally different from the rest of the arrangement. The hood is embedded in a soffit that mimics the shape of the island and it has recessed spotlights to brighten the worktop. Table area is marked with black hanging lamps.

The living room is bordered by stairs and kitchen space. The lighting is architectural and it consists of profiles suspended to give a diffused light. Due to the sofa and the armchair was created a small coffee table in an irregular hexagonal plan of Corian material.

The master bedroom encompasses all the upper level, except the bathroom. It is divided into sleeping and dressing area. Dressing room is circular and is found at the entrance to the bedroom, along the wall that borders the staircase. The dressing area is enclosed by a large desk which is attached to the headboard. In this headboard are embedded speakers, LED lights, switches and lamps suspended with concrete lampshade apparently easy.
